What is a Boot Camp?
A HCMOF Boot Camp is closely modeled after the Ransomed Heart’s Wild at Heart Boot Camp in Colorado. It is conducted live by the Hill Country Men on Fire team and is designed to lead to the restoration of a man’s God given heart. The weekends are hosted at the beautiful hill country Christian camp Knott Creek Falls and all of the meals are home cooked by like hearted men.
Why is it for me?
We know what it’s like to not be the kind of father, husband, or even the man that we’re supposed to be. We know what is like to have all this frustration and anger and not really be able to explain where it comes from. Attending a Wild at Heart weekend will change all of that. This retreat will awaken your God given desires, open your heart to what you were destined to be, an explanation to why this world sometimes doesn’t make sense and feels like you are lost in it, and give you the knowledge and skills to successfully battle against those attacks that threaten your close relationship with Jesus. A Battle to Fight
God, who is a great warrior, created man in his image. God set within us a warrior heart because he has created us to join him in his war against evil, and if we’re going to find our part in God’s story, if we’re going to be the men that he made us to be, we have to get that part of our heart back.
An Adventure to Live
Life is not a problem to be solved; it is an adventure to be lived. That is the nature of it and has been since the beginning, when God set the dangerous stage for this high-stakes drama and called the whole wild enterprise good. He rigged the world in such a way that it only works when we embrace risk as the theme of our lives, which is to say, only when we live by faith. A man just won’t be happy until he has adventure in his work, in his love, and in his spiritual life.
A Beauty to Save
The beauty of a woman stimulates a man to play the man. The strength of a man, offered tenderly to his woman, allows her to be beautiful. It brings life to her and many. This is a reality that extends to every aspect of our lives. When a man withholds himself from his woman, he leaves her without the life only he can bring. It’s hard to think of a classic men’s movie that doesn’t have a “rescue the beauty” scene—and the romantic “thank you” that follows! Nothing can get our attention like a beautiful woman. Again, God made us this way. Back in the beginning of our story, Eve was created from Adam’s side—and none of us have recovered from the surgery. Men are haunted by the Beauty. Where the confusion begins is when we turn to the woman not to offer our strength, but rather looking to her for our validation. Certain disaster follows. Learning to fight for the Beauty is not only one of man’s core passions, it is one of life’s greatest joys.

It’s clear to me that there is always a “right time” and it always amazes me how God picks it for you. Since mid-September 2018 I’ve been more than my grumpy self as the news of the “Issue in the Catholic Clergy” became public fodder. It hurt as I loved the church and loved growing closer to God the Trinity with my wife. We’d began praying and studying together every (most) mornings and it was good. In our 52 years of marriage we’ve never prayed so much. But I was trying to put it all together and was troubled with the thing that I’d done in the past and started to recall & catalogue them, the sins that is. So, this Boot camp was perfect timing & I expect a great growth spurt going forward.
This weekend has meant a lot to me. I lost my zeal (fire) for God somewhere along my journey. The nature of hanging out with other Christian men and being COMPLETELY HONEST about our struggles/wounds is so refreshing. The “God Time” alone is worth the trip. Something about shutting the world off & just tuning into God is powerful. Thank you HCMOF for sharing your TRUE HEARTS & WOUNDS with us. I know that is not easy & I extremely appreciate it.

I came to this “Boot Camp” with an open heart and open mind; I know and admit I am a Christian in need of a lot of work, spiritual healing, guidance, in need of the awakening, in need of a sense of atonement and acceptance of Jesus Christ and His sacrifice for us. In my heart I do not deny that I am in possession of dark secrets and lots of sin. Yet I accept the full responsibility for my sins for my choices, my actions and for accepting Jesus as my Savior / Redeemer. Knowing from the lessons that I listened to and watched here, I have a journey and a bunch of work to do. God bless y’all & thank you for awakening my soul, my wonder child of God.
I learned much this weekend. There is a spiritual battle going on and each man must do his part by opening his heart and trusting in God through Christ Jesus to do his part in the battle. We cannot receive our affirmation as a man from eve (our wives). We must look to God for this affirmation and he will grant it. We have wounded hearts. God desires to heal our wounds. Thank you for the weekend.
I have been to numerous spiritual conferences/retreats through the years of my own personal Christian Journey. Wild at Heart via HCMOF is truly transformational in its uniqueness, geared towards men and in its methods of reaching the core of our issues, and practical spiritual precepts to deal with the difficult Journey through life.
I have been searching over the last few years for direction and a way to start and focus a path toward Christ Jesus. I believe that this weekend helped open my eyes to this path, a way of following my heart, and a way to help lead me, my wife, and my family to God and the fulfillment of Jesus.
I was given the talk needed to live a full and faithful life and the talk to constantly improve myself and those around me.
This weekend taught me how to fight for what is true in my heart as created by and in the image of God.

“I have read most everything John Eldredge has written and a few of his books I have read 2-3 times, including Wild at Heart. Most of what I heard this weekend, I have heard before in Eldredge's books and podcasts, but a couple of things really opened up for me. Specifically the concept of the wound and taking my question to eve. I heard those ideas 20 years ago when I first read Wild at Heart, but it never made sense until now. For the first time I understand my wound, how my development as a man was interrupted and how ever since, I have been seeking my validation as a man through women. “I attended a Hill Country Men on Fire Boot Camp and in a word it was awesome. Awesome has become a such an overused adjective in our world which is a shame because that is the perfect word for describing Boot Camp. While all my questions were not answered over the three days, it did equip me with the tools continue the forward progress. It was a refreshing experience, and way outside the tired old concept of "men's retreat" which are always pretty lame with have no value. I never have attended a men's retreat that was worthwhile. That isn't the case with Boot Camp.
Boot Camp coming on the heals of reading Wild At Heart is something every man should strongly consider doing. The information passed on hits the mark, and will show you that what you inherently know as truths are just that, and what the "church" or religious people have told you are half truths, misinterpretations of scripture, or outright lies. Leave the fog and attend a Boot Camp. You will be glad you did. I know I am."
